Software company, Mental Canvas, has just released a three-dimensional, interactive rendition of Istvan Banyai’s children’s book, The Other Side, as an iPad app called The Other Side in 3D. The downloadable, digital version allows users to flip, zoom, and pan though six pages, with 38 additional pages available through the in-app purchase feature. The app hits close to home, as Mental Canvas’ founder and CEO is also Yale Computer Science faculty member, Prof. Julie Dorsey, whose specialty is computer graphics. The iPad program was honored to award an iPad class-set to Prof. Dorsey’s spring 2015 CPSC 479 class, Advanced Topics in Computer Graphics. For her class, she had her students investigate different sketching apps (including Paper by FiftyThree, Autodesk SketchBookPro, and TapTrix Brushes) to help them ultimately develop their own apps.
