The Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale: Online Archives and Initiatives

Founded as a traditional historical papers series in the 1950s, the Works of Jonathan Edwards transformed in 2003 into an online, open-access archive and resource center with initiatives that encourage engagement with primary sources through research, pedagogy, and publication. This presentation will review the storied history of the edition, its transition into a digital humanities project, and its ongoing challenges and solutions to meet the highest scholarly standards while serving the needs of and educating its varied audience.

Dr. Kenneth P. Minkema is the Executive Editor of The Works of Jonathan Edwards and of the Jonathan Edwards Center & Online Archive at Yale University, with appointments as Research Faculty at Yale Divinity School and as Research Associate at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He offers seminars in early American and early modern religious history, as well as reading courses in all periods of American religious history. From 2004 through 2009, he served as the Executive Secretary of the American Society of Church History.

Spring 2014 iPad Showcase

Our second LuxTalk of the Spring 2014 semester will be March 28 in the TEAL classroom at 17 Hillhouse Avenue, where the informal venue will be an open house with instructors showcasing how they used one of the CLC iPad class sets for a semester. The doors will open at 11.00 am and the showcase will last until 12:45 pm, with a light lunch being provided.

Presenters stationed around the room will demonstrate how they used iPads in their courses, answer questions, and explain how the mobile devices have influenced or changed the way they teach.

Research Improvements at the Yale Center for British Art

Matthew Hargraves, Curator for Collections Research and Head of Collections Information and Access, and Emmanuelle Delmas-Glass, Collections Data Manager will discuss the YCBA’s transition from analog to digital in terms of collection access and research. They will specifically talk about the role of data and Linked Open Data in their efforts to provide researchers with appropriate online tools.
