NHA + YSOA

Students from New Haven Academy and the Yale School of Architecture met on September 20, 2017, for our first exchange of ideas.  We met at the NHA, at the corner of Orange and Bradley Streets, where this picture was taken, and walked back to the Yale School of Architecture together where YSOA students made short presentations based on their initial forays to the Goffe Street Armory.

Based on these presentations, New Haven Academy students reflected on some key topics in thinking about the future of the Armory as a civic resource, including:  How to balance retrofitting the building while also maintaining its patina and sense of history?  How to call attention to a building that, while monumental, is also seemingly easy to ignore?   How to enhance the connection between the Goffe Street Armory and the park across the street?
