Professor Mathews-Salazar (BA in law, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima; MS in Anthropology, Indiana University; PhD in sociocultural anthropology, Yale) has done research and writing on regionalism, law, and political movements in the Andes, and on issues like human rights and women’s rights, cultural heritage, migration and transnationalism in Latin America and the United States. Professor Mathews-Salazar has taught at Connecticut College, Quinnipiac University, and Fordham University before taking a position at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in 2000, where she is now professor and Director of the Center for Ethnic Studies. She is also a member of the faculty of the Anthropology Group of the CUNY Graduate Center.
