Our Mission
Yale Undergraduates at Connecticut Hospice (YUCH) is an organization that provides the unique opportunity to work at a palliative care facility a short drive away from campus in Branford, CT. Volunteers provide a service that is crucial to the Hospice organization and uplifting to the patients. There are a variety of volunteer departments ranging from patient assistance to art therapy, which all immerse volunteers in the real patient care experience.
What is Hospice?
The Connecticut Hospice was the first established hospice in America and inaugurated hospice care in 1974. Since then it has remained as the leader of the growing hospice movement throughout the nation. CT Hospice addresses the physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs of patients with advanced irreversible illnesses. While control of physical symptoms is the primary concern of caregivers, it is not the only priority – patients with irreversible illnesses also suffer from an array of emotional and spiritual problems. Given the wide range of needs for patients, Hospice ensures that patients attain optimum end-of-life care by employing a holistic approach to clinical care.
