We are pleased to announce a grant award from the National Archives’ National Historical Publications & Records Commission.
The funds will support one year of the editorial preparation and electronic publication of a portion of the Project’s The Massachusetts Collection. Documents will be drawn from the Indian collections within the Massachusetts Archives from 1649 to 1870. These materials focus on Native Americans who lived within the geographical limits of the colonies of Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay, their history, culture, and long interactions with Euro-Americans in what is now the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. During this phase of the Project, editors will work with the following partner institutions: The Massachusetts Archives, Harvard University Library, The National Archives of the United Kingdom, The Digital Archive of Massachusetts Native American Petitions Project (Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study), Plimoth Plantation, The Institute for New England Native American Studies, and Native scholars from several Native communities (Mohegan, Nipmuc, Mashpee and Aquinnah Wampanoag).
