The main aim of this project is to provide language-teaching colleagues and learners with an opportunity to rethink and extend the idea and scope of literacy pedagogy/learning; namely, to show why and how Korean TV Public Service Announcements (PSAs) (Gong-ik Gwang-go) can serve as a valuable resource for content-based teaching-learning of Korean language and cultural literacy. This project explores learning materials and activities using TV PSAs to promote integrated language learning in order to assist students in gaining linguistic competence as well as cultural literacy competence. The sample project module implementing the 5Cs (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities) of the Standards for Foreign Language Education and Multiliteracies Framework (NLG 1996) have been seamlessly incorporated. The results of students’ pre and post self-assessments in implementing the materials and content suggested in this project show an overall significant enhancement in their sociocultural literacy.
