Description
- Applicable Proficiency Range: This two-part project is applicable for elementary high to advanced proficiency learners.
- Applicable Languages:
- Educational Setting: FL/HL learners in 3-12 and higher education setting.
- Project Description: These projects, created for intermediate level heritage language learners of Spanish (SPAN142), invites students to explore (visual) and reflect on (text and oral) various aspects of Yale University and New Haven. Students connect key points (aural, oral, text) with similar aspects of their hometown and heritage country. Lee-Smith’s “My Happy Place” module is the ideal summative assessment for this sequence. These projects are readily adaptable to suit a variety of levels, languages and topics.
- Project Rationale: My [New] Haven helps anchor students to the Yale/New Haven community, providing them a sense of place in their [new] environment. It allows them to explore and compare their current place of residence with their hometown and the place of origin of parents or grandparents. Finally, by sharing their projects, it invites them to expand their knowledge of other cultures, both within the United States and abroad.
