Background

Our team systematically developed and tested a PrEP decision aid among women with substance use disorders in treatment settings.

Since its initial development, the PrEP decision aid has gone through many iterations and further adaptations. The goal of this website is to acknowledge this intellectual property while making it publicly available for other researchers to use.

The product is registered with Creative Commons licensing and hosted in a standalone WordPress website using Yale University – WordPress for Individuals and Groups @ Yale University so that it may be broadly available to other research teams.

What is a decision aid? A decision aid is a tool to help people make informed choices about their health. Decision aids can take various formats, including individual aids for patients to use alone and shared aids for patients to use along with their healthcare provider. A decision aid is not meant to advocate for one decision over another, but rather to present the pros and cons of each possible choice so patients can fairly weigh them accordingly to their personal values and preferences.

Why a PrEP decision aid? We designed a PrEP decision aid to empower women to ask two key questions: 1) Do I have reasons for HIV prevention? and 2) Is PrEP right for me?
