Dude, jet lag is mad real.
And that basically explains my Sunday and Monday in entirety. Even though this trip was only two-thirds the length of my eurotrip, I’d definitely say it took a greater toll on me due to the dramatic climate change I underwent switching from mountainous Korea in the end of winter to tropical Malaysia in the high of dry season. How I survived could put the most knowledgeable of philosophers to task.
Anyway, Korea, again… again… again! Will I keep doing this? Probably not. That SEA tour was my last extra-curricular trip I planned on taking for my gap year. The remainder is pretty much focused on three things: Korean, the sciences, and dance. But hoe strong of a plan did I form for that? Not pretty solid since I am heading to Singapore next week. Nevertheless, I promise you can trust me that I will commit to these priorities. And if I mess up, anyone is free to yell at me virtually or in person to make sure I’m focused. (Please do! I really need the support.)
Well, since I have a delay, where did I my priorities lie for the moment? Friends and things! The week was chock-full of them. With spring break starting up at Yale and folks flocking back to Korea for the moment, it seemed pretty appropriate to chill. I had the pleasure of seeing Sang, a friend taking a Light semester in Taiwan, and the Yale Reach-Out team for Korea, along with Cole, a friend taking a Light year in Japan before starting up grad school. Someone folks chilling, we forgot to take pictures. So instead here’s a photo of a cool dog on a roof I saw at Hongdae.
Actually speaking of that, Miriam and I (with Diallo, in spirit) had the pleasure seeing Emily destroy her first marathon ever. How good was she? Sub-4 hours. Yes, folks, she is actually a champion.
Speaking of champions, I mentioned how bad-ass T.I.P. Crew is often enough, especially my two teachers Double-D and Differ Kim. Well Differ just went to Denmark for a little turn and brought back the gold. 우승 (victory)!
And to cement the fact that this week was positively positive, I am about to compliment my language program. My new class seems like a fair bunch but the teachers actually impressed me right off the bat. Yes, actually. 황선생님 (Teacher Hwang) threw in the correct 한자 while she was teaching to cement the meaning of the Korean words we were dealing with; hopefully she keeps up this practice because that means more good things ahead. 박선생님 (Teacher Park) is the first guy language teacher I have had and also definitely the most animated. Since he actually throws a good amount of emotion into his explanation and goes off tangent to explain things that are more important to know to understand Korean culture, his lessons actually add a lot of flavor to my Korean learning experience. I’ll be honest: I’m excited for this final semester… but for the reasons you were not expecting 🙂
