Day 16
Day 17
Yale Health gave me magical drugs before I left for Asia and they served their use very well at this point in time. I was back on my feet and actually getting hungry. Thank you, science.
As a way to finally get to enjoy Chiang Mai, we went out to get massages from ex-prisoners. Getting a Thai massage is one thing. Getting it from someone who is getting back on their feet adds an extra layer of appreciation. I have to say, the place was a winner. I felt 100%, again!
Day 18
So I could say I saw something in Chiang Mai, we went to the City Arts & Culture Center. The place offers visitors the history and growth of Chiang Mai. Tons of interactive pieces fill the halls. The English narration for rooms are also pretty solid, if dry. I learned that Burmese actually colonized the area at one point. Remnants of its older culture do remain throughout the place. King Rama IV and King Rama V both introduced strong reforms that, in addition to its position as a buffer between British Burma and French Indochina, prevented it from ever being colonized. I could tell you more but that may stop you from visiting.
As a way to end our time in town, we got a bunch of fast food so I could feel normal again. It was nice.
