I realized this week, as I started falling onto the floor breaking in good ways, I have yet elaborated my b-boying experience to you all. So let’s start now.

As you may recall, my hip-hop instructor, Double-D, is incredible. Unsurprisingly, so is his main crew, T.I.P. Their crew name actually stands for “Teamwork is Perfect” as that is the central pillar of their crew’s philosophy. Individually, they’re all very impressive, but together, they have brought a lot of swag in and out of Korea. This folks are no joke and the groups range of styles can make one pretty envious very quickly. From b-boying to bellydancing, from waacking to contemporary, from hip-hop to ballet, these dancers can do it all.

So to transform my own style I picked up b-boy under Double D’s recommendation and started taking a beginner class under his friend and fellow crew member, Differ Kim.

Like Double-D, Differ made me glad that I’m finally trying to learn how to dance. He’s very passionate and has an impressive b-boying background (think every major competition-wise). However, he’s especially awesome with how graceful he can make b-boying seem in comparison to an often perceived in-your-face style. Check out this video for proof.

As you could imagine, the learning curve has been pretty steep thanks to him and my own experience with Double-D. I seem to have the 6-step, 5-step, 3-step, a few freezes, and numerous steps down already. Additionally, Differ has been teaching me how to incorporate certain moves into hip-hop, which has been helping me to really fine out my rhythm. However, I still have long way to go before I look anything like their crew.

I also wanted to say that I just finished up a really helpful Coursera MOOC. If you guys struggle with certain aspects like me or want to improve upon your own learning habits, I highly recommend Learning How to Learn taught by Dr. Barbara Oakley and Dr. Terrence Sejnowski. They utilized insights from physics, math, neuroscience, psychology, and linguistics to really elaborate great ways to reframe your thought processing when learning something and good ways you can adjust your habits and behaviors when it comes to learning, reading, and studying. For what it’s worth, it definitely earned my seal of approval and very much added a sizable portion of happiness into my life.
