Also with two copies of Holland’s publication, General view of the agriculture of Cheshire (1808) and two issues of his Recollections of past life (1868).

Godissart de Cari’s Souvenirs de l’Angleterre

An album of twenty watercolors recording the 1826 journey to England by members of the French Delahaye family. Gaudissart, a family friend of the Delahaye clan, traveled with them from their home in Pierrefitte, near Saint-Denis, recording the sights they saw across The Channel.
With a 16-page letter dated 1826, written in French, addressed by L. Delahaye to her friend Alexandrine upon the Delahayes’ return from England. The letter recounts the family’s journey in great detail from start to finish, and includes several mentions of the (lively) participation of Gaudissart. Also included is a single leaf written ca. 1850 describing the genesis of the album and brief biographical sketch of Gaudissart de Cari.

Sketchbook chronicling a tour along the Rhine by an English traveler and draughtsman

Album of 20 leaves (of which 3 are double leaves) of pencil, sepia and black ink sketches, some with wash, of Rhine landscape and town views, as well as 2 colour wash sketches, and a few pencil sketches (one with wash), most captioned in manuscript. The sketchbook records a journey along the Rhine where the draughtsman sketched a number of romantic vedute and vistas.

Album of ca. 40 pen and ink, wash, and one color drawing of scenes in Yorkshire, most dated (30 April 1799-9 June 1801) and “drawn on the spot”, with the artist’s identification of the locales, buildings, and ruins. The first is dated April 30th 1799 and is a view of Fountain’s Abbey and followed by several sketches of ships and trees, a cottage, and two views of a bridge with a village in the distance. These sketches are followed by a series 24 non-sequentially numbered sketches, half of which are half-page oval designs. Six more drawings — wash, pencil, or ink — follow executed in 1801. The penultimate leaf contains a pencil drawing of The ruins of Wallop Church, dated Ap: 15th 1805 on the verso and a rough sketch of a scene on the verso. The final leaf is a wash drawing of a vista and is signed E. Johnson, JPearson, JPearson and is undated; another rough pencil drawing of trees and tower on the verso.

Album containing drawings of castles, ruins, abbeys, landscapes, roads, and bridges drawn by the artist while on tour in northern Wales in August and September 1790, the year before her marriage. Most of the drawings are titled with names of places visited are listed on the front fly leaf. On the verso of the fifth drawing, sometime after 1826, the artist has written a short piece entitled “Recollections” in which she compares traveling in Wales in 1790 to the last trip she took in 1826.
