An account book used by the constables to record the expenses incurred by a small Nottinghamshire village from 1753 until 1805. The entries are remarkably similar over this period of over 50 years, as standard expenditures included those for the care of the poor; for the maintenance of church property and church services including bell ringers, candles, and bread; for the maintenance of waterways, roads, and sewers; and, to address problems with wildlife including moles and the odd flock of sparrows. The account also includes other expenses for land and window taxes and the occasional mention of outlaying of funds for individuals like Ann May and J. Hunt which provide hints at the life of the very poor and how they were cared for in their village in contrast to the mention of vagabonds who were removed to the Poor House that was built in Nottingham during this period.
