Walpole, Horace, 1717-1797
Letter : to Sir David Dalrymple, 1790 September 21.
ALS from Walpole, in which after complaining his gout, he responds to a series of questions about his recollection of the art collections at the Earl of Exeter’s home Burghley House. Walpole’s memory is quite detailed about many of the paintings. The rest of the letter is a commentary on the what is occuring in France as a result of the National Assembly’s attempt at “correcting a bad government”.
