Kunlun Bai – about me

Hello and welcome!

I am a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Yale University. Before coming to Yale, I obtained my Ph.D. (& M.S) in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. I am a mechanical engineer (half physicist) and have over 9 years expertise in the area of thermal, fluid, and material research.

I have acquired solid skills in fluid/thermal engineering, experimental design/measurement, theoretical analysis, modeling, numerical simulations, finite element analysis, data analysis/visualization, mechanical testing, material development, and design/draft using CAD software.

Besides these technical skills, I have had valuable leadership and volunteer experience. I have led/managed 6 students and different projects, served as a coordinator for American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting, served as a session chair in American Physical Society – DFD Meeting, and participated in a scientific outreach at Yale. Please check out my “Skills” and “Research” page for more information.

I love playing with data, revealing unknown knowledge from data, and visualizing complex data sets. A few examples can be found in my “Data Visualization” page.

Although much of my time is spent in the lab, I do enjoy my free time by practicing my guitars, taking photos, visiting museums, playing soccer, hiking, and kayaking. You could find some photos in my “Gallery” page.

I Hope you would enjoy my website and find some useful information. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
