Student Feedback

I would very highly recommend this course to any student interested in ASL, Deaf culture, learning a new language, or just learning to express themselves through a new medium. Not only do you learn a language, but you also learn how to better communicate with all people and deepen your appreciation for language and communication as a whole. (ASL110, Fall 2024)

Taking ASL at Yale has provided me with a multitude of skills for communication and knowledge of the Deaf community. This course goes beyond teaching language and invites students to engage with the community and Deaf space. (ASL120, Spring 2024)

Dr. S really cares deeply about her students and offers such a unique and important perspective on the issues she discusses in class. I really appreciated her commitment to adjusting to student feedback and how knowledgable she was about the issues we discussed. She created such a caring, fun classroom environment that really allowed us to practice our language skills and deeply discuss the issues at hand which made the class such a valuable learning experience for me. (ASL150 Spring 2024)

The ASL department is so caring and appreciative of students. When you learn ASL you become apart of such an 1685183 inviting and positive community of students and staff at Yale. You learn more than just the language, you learn about the Deaf community, the culture, accessibility and so much more. (ASL140 Spring 2023)

I came in with no knowledge of ASL, but I am now able to hold a very basic conversation. Not only did I learn about the language, I learned about Deaf Culture and was able to interact with the Deaf community all throughout the semester. (ASL110 Fall 2022)

Community Feedback

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for hosting the Yale ASL Open House. It was a fantastic event, and I am pleased that my students had the opportunity to attend and engage with everyone present. (ASL Interpreter Program Coordinator, Northwestern Community College)

Thank you for the invitation to attend the ASL Open house yesterday.  We all had a wonderful time and made a lot of great connections that will lead to assisting more people in Connecticut! (President & CEO, Marrakech, Inc.)
