YUJC Presents: The Music of Cannonball Adderley

When: Saturday, November 10, 2018 @8pm
Where: Pierson College Dining Hall (261 Park St.)

In the absence of robust performance and educational opportunities for jazz music offered by the University, the YUJC seeks to not only bring first rate musicians and educators to campus through our Underbrook Series, but also to establish performance outlets for our own student musicians to contribute meaningfully to the dialogue and campus culture around jazz music. This weekend, the Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective is proud to bring you a tribute to legendary saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, featuring Hersh Gupta on alto saxophone. The performance will take place in the Pierson College Dining Hall at 8PM (see directions below). Doors open at 7:45PM. As always, the event is free and open to the public!

Julian “Cannonball” Adderley was one of the most beloved saxophonists of the Twentieth Century. His career spanned a myriad of genres and eras in American music – from the bebop and hard bop of the 1950’s and 60’s to the soul and rock-influenced jazz of the 1970’s – but his joyful sound remains as distinctive as ever today. Join us for an evening of music and a discussion about what his music means to us.
