Inquiring into an Ancient Multispecies Ritual: Possible Ritual Techniques and Practices

February 24, 2022 12-1pm ET via Zoom

This presentation will focus on an ancient Christian text with Jewish roots embedded in the Testament of Adam, and ask what kind of ritual practices and techniques might lie behind this text. These practices are cosmologically-governed, and more-than-human focused, meaning that traditional scholarly tools have been unable to attend to this “interspecies” ritual. Contemporary theorizing about other-than-human beings allows new perspectives to emerge here.
