The 2012 State Conference was held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 (we know that’s not technically 2012). This year’s conference featured Professor Luis Eduardo Zavala de Alba, Visiting Fellow in the Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies and an affiliate of the Yale Global Affairs Program, as our Keynote Speaker. He has been a visiting professor both at the Yale Law School and at the Harvard Kennedy School. Professor Zavala is a lifelong activist who has worked to promote human rights policy in the Mexican armed services. He discussed his experience as an activist conducting Human Rights trainings with soldiers and advocating for protections for civilian life. In addition, he is the editor of the book “Public Policy and Human Rights in Mexico.”
