Francis Harwood’s Bust of a Man, 1758, Yale Center for British Art
Our inaugural event of the 2014-2015 academic year is a tour and discussion of the Yale Center for British Art exhibition, Figures of Empire: Slavery and Portraiture in Eighteenth-Century Atlantic Britain. The exhibition was curated by Esther Chadwick and Meredith Gamer, PhD candidates in the Department of the History of Art at Yale University, and Cyra Levenson, Associate Curator of Education at the Yale Center for British Art. The curators will provide a tour of the exhibition followed by a reception and seminar discussion of two texts, listed below.* Please meet at 4:00 p.m. in front of the Yale Center for British Art. Following the tour, which should last around 45 minutes to an hour, our group will walk to room 259 in Loria Hall for a discussion of the text over refreshments.
