First Part of the Course

The first phase of the course will be devoted to a deep reading and interpretation of the work,  to the analysis of the characters by the students and to its translation for the preparation of the English subtitles. The students will engage in meaningful debate about the characters in order to bring out the motivations of their actions,  passions,  feelings,  relationships,  often conflicting,  with the author’s intended meanings. In fact,  any dramatic author has usually given a voice on stage if not directly to his/her own personal experience at least to his/her ‘inner struggle’. For that reason,  part of the introductory lectures will also be devoted to a brief but comprehensive presentation of the author and the context in which his work has to be contextualized. At the end of this phase,  the student will do a short essay in the target language.
