SO YOU THINK YOU CAN SAYAW

In Spring 2014, RB took a crucial next step in our crew’s future, competing for the first time. We participated in “So You Think You Can Sayaw” (sayaw is tagalog for “dance”), an annual hip-hop showcase and competition organized by the Philippine United Student Organization (PUSO) at Stony Brook University in Long Island. Thanks to our generous friends, family and alumni, we successfully raised more than $1000 through an Indiegogo Campaign to fund our transport, and were able to make our way to Long Island. It was not only RB’s first time at such a large-scale competition, but also the first time that a team outside of NY/NJ took part in SAYAW. RB did not place, but we had loads of fun representing Yale and Connecticut, meeting other crews, and immersing ourselves in the awe-inspiring NY/NJ dance scene.

Check out the set we performed at SAYAW 2014! (and watch the other crews too. they are ridiculously dope)

PARENTS’ WEEKEND SHOWCASE

Every Fall, RB collaborates with Steppin’ Out – Yale’s step team – to stage a hip-hop showcase during Parents’ Weekend. We sometimes invite a third dance crew into the fray as well (in Fall 2014, we shared the stage with Yale Jashan Bhangra) This is our chance to show our parents what we do, and why we love it. For our new members, this is usually their first time on stage with the crew, and a great way to get both their parents and themselves excited about RB.

OTHER CAMPUS EVENTS

RB performs at two key events organized by the Yale Admissions Office for prospective freshmen: Bulldog Days and Yale Engineering and Science (YES) Weekend. These are always great opportunities for RB to help Yale recruit its future students, and of course for us to attract potential new team members as well.
