Introductory Kathak Classes – North Indian Clasical Dance

Fridays (From Oct 5th) 3:30-4:30 pm at the Educational Center for the Art, located at 55 Audubon St, New Haven CT

For the first time ever, Yale Raga Society is offering introductory Kathak classes – North Indian Classical Dance. The only dance form to have been influenced by the Hindu and Muslim traditions, Kathak is characterized by dynamic footwork, complex rhythms and dramatic storytelling. Experience the joy of dance through drama, music, mathematics, mythology, poetry and tradition!

Shefali Jain has been studying Kathak dance for the past 10 years under Gretchen Hayden-Ruckert and has recently begun training with renowned Kathak maestro Pandit Chitresh Das. She has performed throughout the Boston area with the Chhandika Ensemble and is now performing in New York with the Chhandam Dance Ensemble. She has taught children/ teens classes at the Chhandika School of Kathak (Boston). Shefali is currently a senior at Yale College.
