Maher Arar Hearing

I’m now watching C-SPAN 2’s broadcast of the hearing from earlier today (Thurs., 10/18) at which perhaps the best known victim of the U.S.’s extraordinary rendition program, Maher Arar, testified (by video, since he’s still on a watch list & not allowed into the U.S.).  Heartbreaking, but extremely important.  If you get a chance to watch the hearing (C-SPAN often plays tapes multiple times) or read the transcript (if I find a link to the transcript, I’ll post it here), my favorite part (so far) is Arar’s and then Rep. Bill Delahunt’s response to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s attempt to get Mr. Arar to say that he agreed with the waterboarding of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

The Canadian Press has a story about it here.
