Formalization of the Extended Reserve moves a step closer

Required documents (with 30 copies of each), including the Safeguard Plan, the Management Plan, the Technical note of the Project, and the proposed draft decree were all submitted to the SAPM Committee in charge of their official validation, and the Bezà Mahafaly team, led by Madagascar National Parks Reserve Director Andry Randrianandrasana, successfully defended these documents to the Committee in November. Representatives of the National Office of the Environment (ONE) visited the Reserve in November to conduct public consultations, as a result of which they approved the environmental permit for the reserve extension. We anticipate that the final step, submission of the dossier to Parliament, will take place in the next few months.
