Overview

My research addresses contentious politics in imperial and authoritarian regimes. I study the ideas that frame collective action. I seek to explain why social movement actors identify with particular mobilizing platforms, and how nationalism and ideology shape political struggles. My work shows how rulers’ actions affect the aims, tactics, and timing of anti-regime mobilization.
