Yale Dance Theater (YDT)

YDT is the only officially university-sponsored and faculty-led dance troupe at Yale. Our faculty director, Emily Coates, invites a different world-renowned choreographer to campus each year to set original works on the Yale Dance Theater dancers. Each fall the troupe holds auditions, and the professional-level rehearsals are generally in the spring, for a total commitment of six hours each week. Styles range depending on the choreographer represented that year—past choreographers have included Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown, Reggie Wilson and Akram Khan—but a strong basis in modern or ballet technique helps with any style. YDT also includes a unique writing component through a blog the dancers keep during the rehearsal process, which becomes the basis for the annual YDT journal. Current student coordinators are Karlanna Lewis, Naomi Roselaar and Holly Taylor. Although auditions have closed for the 2014-2015 academic year, please contact KarlannaNaomi, or Holly for more information.
